Takunda Clement Chanetsa

2024 Advocacy Navigator (Zimbabwe)

Takunda brought together diverse voices to address youth sexual and reproductive health challenges, organizing roundtable discussions that included young people, parents, and policymakers in the same room. His comprehensive advocacy toolkits provided detailed information on contraceptive options and legal rights, while his door-to-door campaigns brought vital information directly to underserved communities.

His most innovative work involved equipping traditional leaders with accurate health information, creating culturally sensitive pathways for sexual and reproductive health conversations. Through partnerships with government agencies, Takunda secured concrete commitments to improve youth access to health facilities.

He focused on improving the access to integrated, youth-friendly mental health and HIV services for Young People Living with HIV in Banket, Zimbabwe; and raising awareness on both external and internal stigma. Going forward, Takunda will work on increasing the awareness on availability of integrated mental health and HIV services tailored to the needs of young people living with HIV through focus group discussions with young people living with HIV, healthcare workers, caregivers and other stakeholders.
