A Protocol Review Companion for Activists

It is sometimes said in our field that clinical trial protocols are too complex for community members to review. But we also say research should not go forward without the approval of the community. How can community members, activists, and other people whose primary expertise might not be clinical research provide meaningful input into protocols and broader research agendas?
